Original, "White Bag" VCI storage bags.
The Collector Source has found a limited quantity of unused, original, long term storage bags for the M1 carbine. This type of bag is the same as the ones that were used on the "white bag" carbines that the CMP sold years ago. These are the actual bags used by the US Government to store M1 carbines, and are made to the proper military specifications. They are foil lined and VCI coated on the inside to prevent any moisture damage. They seal on the end with a standard household iron. They measure 40" long. On the large end they are 8.5" wide and on the small end they are 3" wide. If you live in a humid climate (Like I do here in NC) these are the best (and inexpensive) way to store your carbines for the future without corrosion. I have a CMP carbine that I am saving for my daughter. After replacing all of the springs, checking for zero etc. I stored the rifle away. I inserted the rifle inside the bag, then I closed up the end with an iron and wrote the serial number of the carbine on the outside. Now I dont have to ever worry about rust on it until my daughter is old enough to learn to shoot. Being in the VCI bag also keeps the rifle from getting dinged up in the back of the safe. ******************************************************************************************************************************************** I found this report from 1960 about tests done on M1 Carbines stored with similar VCI bags. It is very interesting; ******************************************************************************************************************************************** Accession Number : AD0236237 Title : CHARACTERISTICS OF VCI MATERIALS WHEN APPLIED AS PACKAGING MEDIA Corporate Author : ROCK ISLAND ARSENAL IL Personal Author(s) : WAGNER, LINDEN H. Report Date : 06 APR 1960 Pagination or Media Count : 1 Abstract : This report covers the results observed during the final examination of Cal. .30 M1 Carbines and component parts after three years in open exposure (tarpaulin covered) at Rock Island Arsenal. These carbines had previously been packaged at Augusta Arsenal in four different volatile corrosion inhibitor materials meeting the requirements of Military Specification MIL-P-3420. After four years in unheated warehouse storage, 120 carbines were removed and shipped to Rock Island Arsenal where they were subjected to more rigorous exposure conditions. The VCI materials used are designated by code letters V.R., N.M., C.S., and F.H. Upon completion of the examination, it was determined that Code V.R. and N. M. materials were superior in performance to the Code C.S. and F.H. materials, when used with MIL-B-131 barrier bags for packaging the Cal. .30M1 carbine. The Code C.S. and F.H. materials affected the bag heat seals. They also affected the wood handguards and stocks: Code C.S. material made the wood feel dry to the touch; whereas, Code F.H. material made the wood feel tacky. There was no evidence of rust on the metallic surfaces of the carbines, slings, magazines, and the oilers. The VCI materials afforded adequate protection during the exposure periods. Each weapon was in a 'ready to issue' condition. (Author-PL). Descriptors : *CONTAINERS, *PROTECTIVE COVERINGS, *SMALL ARMS, CORROSION INHIBITION, GUNS, MATERIALS, STORAGE, TEST METHODS.
